Are you ready for Christmas cardmaking? I know—I can’t believe it’s time to start thinking about it, either. But this year, there’s help! :)

Earlier this summer, Making Cards editor Sally asked me if I’d like to teach a technique video for a special DVD to go with their Christmas issue.

Off I went, to design the one Christmas card for my contribution to the DVD. Well, that one card led to “oh, but I want to share this tip too” and then to “Sally, why don’t I also write up the instructions so it can be in the magazine?” to “yes, I can design 5 cards for the issue”. (Evidently I was on a Christmas-in-summer spree.)

So you are getting rather more of me in this issue than originally planned. But I think it’s going to be such fun.

Here’s what’s included in the Christmas Special Issue of Making Cards magazine, ready for release the end of August.

– The print magazine of course, packed with over 50 card projects. Note: I love that this magazine includes very clear, very specific instructions. Yes, sometimes you can tell from looking at a card what the process is, but sometimes—no matter how experienced you are—you just can’t. Techniques in this issue include a waterfall card, shaker cards, decoupage, teabag folding and more.

– 32 Christmas papers. Another note: The papers in Making Cards are good quality. Now, I am a bit of a paper person (as you might have guessed) and I really like the weight, color quality and design of the MC papers that come with each issue. These are not slick, flimsy papers.

– A DVD, with video tutorials from yours truly and Donna McKean from Riverside Crafts.

Here’s Donna McKean from Riverside Crafts—I’m quite keen to see how she made those stars on her cards.

– The DVD also allows you to print out the papers from your home printer. I experimented with them and my trusty (but several-years-old) Epson printer and printed them onto vellum and cardstock—I love the possibilities with this!

– A super-versatile embossing folder. Just icing on the cake, if you ask me.

Making Cards subscribers will, of course, receive this special issue in the mail. (I’ve been a subscriber for years, so I’ll be stalking the mailman.) However, the Christmas Special is also available to pre-order at a discounted price of £4.95 with free postage in the UK until August 12, 2015. After this the regular price of £5.95 will apply. The issue will be on general sale August 28.

(This magazine is published in England. Not in the UK? They do ship. I’ve just done a quick currency conversion and £4.95 = $7.71 USD, so it’s still a great deal.)

You can also phone 01778 395171 to order, or visit the Making Cards website.

Hope you can join me and get a jump start on your Christmas cardmaking!
